Hôtel Amour $
8, rue Navarin, in the 9th, near the St.-Georges metro. 01 48 78 31 80.Near the Pigalle area—called SoPi for south of Pigalle—this is an artistically designed hotel in a slightly out-of-the-way location. It is considered a budget hotel, but each room is designed differently, with original artwork yet no phone or TV. Hotel Amour was opened by a nightlife guru dubbed simply Andre. An artsy hotel, popular with the fashion crowd. We love the downstairs café room for hanging out and lounging all day.

Hôtel Bel-Ami $$–$$$
7–11, rue St.-Benoît, in the 6th. 01 42 61 53 53. This was one of the first “hip hotels” in Paris, and it’s still going strong. It’s in a beautiful, quiet location yet not far from all that the 6th has to offer.

Hôtel Bourg Tibourg $$
19, rue du Bourg-Tibourg, in the 4th. 01 42 78 47 39. This hotel in the Marais was designed by Jacques Garcia and has a colorful, boudoir feel.

Hôtel Duo $$–$$$
11, rue du Temple, in the 4th, near the Pompidou. 01 42 72 72 22. Hotel Duo, in the heart of the gay part of the Marais, is quite well designed by Jean-Philippe Nuel in understated modern tone. Lively bar scene.

Hôtel Particulier de Montmartre $$$
23, ave Junot, in the 18th. 01 53 41 81 40. If you want to explore the former haunts of Picasso, Lautrec and Modigliani and the locations from the movie Amélie, you will enjoy this newly converted town house in Montmartre, where each room has been designed by a different artist or designer. Totally creative and fun, this quiet corner of Montmartre is like being away in the country.

Murano $$$$ (pictured above)
13, blvd du Temple, in the 3rd. 01 42 72 40 16. This is a designer hotel a designer would approve of. Can be a real scene, but definitely one of the places to be seen.
Pershing Hall $$$
49, rue Pierre Charron, in the 8th. 01 58 36 58 00. This is probably one of the coolest hotels in Paris, with extremely hip design and a fabulous lounge and spa.
