Fall/Winter Paris Fashion Essential: Tartan, and How to Wear It

magazine071.jpg

If there were one pattern that signified fall/winter, it would probably be a tartan. This season in Paris fashion, we see a different mix of colors, stripe width, material and cut, which means we continue to discover a fresh, new tartan look each year.
What can we match with a tartan pattern?
Look 1: Pants or a skirt with a tartan pattern, worn with a simple top in the same base color tone
This season, we discover two beautiful pieces from JC de Castelbajac that show us the perfect example of this look. The orange-and-black tartan-print pencil skirt with a black chunky sweater is colorful enough to add some spark to the cold gray winter. The trick is not to choose a pattern that is more than three colors, as this keeps our eyes focused. The cardigan has a subtle and fun detail—two squirrels sitting at either shoulder. The black of the cardigan successfully splits the focus at a distance. This skirt works well with a simple black or white T-shirt for a more casual look.

Look 2: Total Scottish tartan look
For a chic tartan look, choose a pattern with fine simple contrasting color lines with a single color base. This set from Innamorato is an example of this fabulous look. The oversize top with three-quarter sleeves and the loose pants with a flared bottom create a chic, sporty silhouette that is comfortable and fashionable.
Prepare your perfect tartan look in time for the winter holiday season!
