Paris Jazz: La Tremoille

This past October when hubby and I were in Paris we had the chance to have a real adult evening. No, get your mind out of the gutter. What I mean is a classy, classic night of Paris jazz, champagne, cute little hors d’oeuvres all followed by a luxurious meal.

While it seems I’m always on the hunt for the newest, hippest, coolest, trendiest happenings and places in Paris sometimes its lovely to have a romantic and refined night in an aristocratic setting. Enter the Hotel La Tremoille and their new Bubbles and Jazz nights every Thursday in their Louis 2 lounge.

In fact it was back in the 60’s that Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington played and stayed at this hotel in the 8th arrondissement just around the corner from the Avenue Montaigne and George V.

Following in this great jazz tradition, pianist Matthieu Nalleau plays his classic jazz melodies every Thursday evening from 6:30-9pm and for only 15 euros you can enjoy a glass of very chilled Moet Chandon champagne and some petit fours. The night we were there, Matthieu, was joined by vocalist Vita Schmidt who was excellent.

The hotel is five stars but doesn’t try to compete with the Shangri-La, the Plaza Athénée or the Peninsula, rather they attract folks who prefer a Parisian hideaway who choose to pay less but still enjoy a very large and luxurious room by Paris standards. What I particularly liked was their butler door, a place where you can leave your dry cleaning and have your breakfast delivered without having to get out of bed. Comfortable, cozy and civilized.

Bubbles and jazz might be just the ticket for a special night out this holiday season. Enjoy the La Tremoille dining room after jazz or pop over to Maison Blanche a few minutes away for a gourmet meal with views of the entire city. Watching the Eiffel tower sparkle from the Pont Alma a stones throw away will put the icing on the cake.
