Cruise holidays can prove to be the perfect getaway break with the girls, getting to indulge in some luxurious surroundings and visit exotic locations whilst enjoying life on the seas. Recently there has been an increase in special interest cruises which bring an extra element to this great holiday experience. Best of all, just because these are specialist cruises doesn’t mean that you’ll incur any extra cost compared to any of the usual cruise deals. Tempted? You should be! Here’s my guide to some of the great special interest cruises for a cool girls’ holiday.
It goes without saying that cruises offer a fantastic culinary experience, getting to dine in style each evening. If you’re fond of a good meal or enjoy sampling new cuisines, then why not take a food and wine cruise. Not only will you be able to eat your way around the region you’ve chosen but also whilst you’re at sea, you’ll be able to take cookery classes, enjoy wine tasting and learn from the professionals. Top destinations for a culinary cruise include a European cruise taking in the culinary excellence of France, sampling fine Spanish Tapas and getting to delve into mouth-watering Mediterranean food.
Dance the cruise away…
Dancing the night away is always the sign of a good night with friends so why not combine that feeling with your cruise holiday. Top of my picks for dance cruises is the Strictly Come Dancing cruise which is attended by one of the judges and some of the professional dancers from the show. You’ll get to watch the dancers perform, learn secrets from behind the scenes of the show and best of all, get dance lessons from the professionals. There are also Big Band Cruises with musicians such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra available to entertain whilst you dance. Best of all, there are gentlemen hosts available to partner up with, so the ladies in your group can be whisked around the dance floor.
If music be the food of love…
Enjoy the perfect soundtrack to your holiday by booking a music cruise for your next girl’s holiday. On board the ship, you’ll be able to enjoy the ballrooms and entertainment provided by the cruise company but it’s the cruise destinations that will really set your heart racing. My top pick here is a tour from the US Music cities down into the Caribbean. Make your way around thriving New Orleans with its intoxicating musical heritage and explore Elvis’ homelands in Memphis, including an unforgettable tour of Graceland. Then it’s back to sea to sail down to Jamaica, home of the legendary Bob Marley.
Cruise into the past
Many cruises stop off at cities to enjoy the culture and the odd historical site. However, if your group want something extra special, why not take a historical cruise. These special cruises allow you to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors as they made their way around the world discovering new lands. Explore iconic historical landscapes such as a cruise along Egypt’s Nile River and enjoy the expert lecturers and guides who will put the magnificent landscape into historical context. Whilst you’re at sea or between destinations, there are also talks and lectures you can attend. My favourite historical cruise would have to be the Gold Rush Cruise, celebrating the USA’s Klondike Gold Rush.
