With summer over and winter about to set in throughout the northern hemisphere, it may not be the ideal time to head off to Europe. That being said though, it’s never too early to start planning for next year’s amazing adventures. If you’ve never been to Europe, or you want to know a bit more about what’s out there, check out this handy list of great European destinations to check out.
Italy
Italy is easily one of the most favoured countries in all of Europe due to its beauty, history and the air of romance that seems prominent throughout. There is no shortage of things to see or do throughout Italy – from the rolling hills and castle wine estates of Tuscany to the beautiful coastal cities such as Bari and Puglia where you can enjoy sipping wine while watching awe-inspiring sunsets. The Amalfi coast is another site that many flock to for the visuals and the aesthetics with colourful villages set amid rocky cliffs against a backdrop of azure sea waters. Come check it out for yourself – you won’t regret it.
Croatia
Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries in the Mediterranean. With hundreds of islands to choose from, one of the most popular ways to experience this country is by going on a Croatian cruise. Island hopping is a popular option when yachting around the Dalmatian Islands – an island chain that looks like the spots of a Dalmatian from above, hence the name. If you’re heading to Croatia during the winter though, never fear! Zagreb, inland, has a whole host of things to do in the winter, including amazing Christmas markets – voted frequently as one of the best in Europe.
Greece
Greece is an amazing, beautiful and largely welcoming country. The capital, Athens, is bustling and full of fantastic historical sites such as the Parthenon and various ruins scattered throughout. Be sure to visit Plaka, a central shopping area, beneath the Parthenon. To see some truly amazing sites outside the city, put Delphi – the site of the Oracle – on your list. Another amazing site not to miss is Meteora, in the central mainland, consisting of many monasteries built into hillsides and on top of mountains, accessible by cable cars. Even if you’re afraid of heights, it makes for stunning photographs. We haven’t even touched on the islands, but with so many to choose from, it shouldn’t be too difficult to pick the perfect place. If you’re looking for history you will find it on most islands, but if you’re into Greek Mythology, check out the island of Crete, rife with Minoan culture, including the palace beneath which the dreaded Minotaur lived.
There are so many different, amazing countries to check out throughout Europe – each with their own unique sights to see and things to experience. So make your next trip to Europe try to add one of these amazing places to your itinerary. You won’t regret it – we promise!
