The Most Romantic Restaurants in Paris
Tue 7 Feb 2012
Recently on my radio show, I talked about some great picks for romantic dining in Paris, and I knew I had to share them with you here. With a plethora of restaurants in Paris, choosing where to dine is a tough call, so please let us know all your favorites either by leaving a comment on our site or by visiting us on Facebook.
Pour la Grande Dame
Le Grand Véfour
A gorgeous, historic room and one of the most expensive restos in Paris. Napoleon and Josephine dined here, as did Jean Cocteau. Situated in the lovely Palais Royal. The tasting menu is 282 euros per person!
For the Foodista
Frenchie
Intimate setting with great modern French food and a very hot chef. Reservations are hard to come by.
For the Movie Buff
Le Grand Colbert
Featured in a scene from the film Something’s Gotta Give, starring Diane Keaton. Classic bistro in the Colbert passage. You could stop first for a coupe de champagne at Willi’s Wine Bar. Sole meunière is a good bet.
For the History Maven
Lapérouse
Victor Hugo was a fan. Famous for its 17th-century private salons, where men would take their mistresses. Ladies would check to see if the diamond gifts they received from their paramours were real by scratching them on the salons’ mirrored walls.
For a Clandestine Affair
Le Coupe-Chou
A personal favorite because of my history here. I first dined at Le Coupe-Chou when I was 16, then went back with my new hubby in 1988 and have returned many times since. Candles adorn the tables, which are arranged in an ancient cave-like space. Have the salade coupe-chou: frisée with poached eggs and lardons.
A Bit of Country in Paris
Le Pré Catalan
A better deal for lunch. A very elegant, very expensive, Michelin-starred restaurant in the Bois de Boulogne.
1920s Paris
Le Dôme
Sit in the red booths surrounded by photos of former patrons, such as Picasso, and dine on terribly fresh oysters.
A Trip to the Provinces
L’Ambassade d’Auvergne
For rustic country romance and a homey welcome. Specialties include aligot (mashed potatoes with cheese = heaven) and the homemade digestifs. YUM.
Hidden Splendor
Hôtel Particulier Montmartre
Boudoir feel and a wonderful secret garden when the weather is warmer.
For the Fashionista
Cristal Room
In the Baccarat Gallery Museum and designed by Philippe Starck. A sparkling modern wonder.
Cut to the Chase
Start at Flûte, in the 17th Arrondissement. Flûte has 22 different champs by the glass and is our partner. Have the foie gras or caviar and select a rose champagne, then go back to your hotel and have dessert in bed. Oh la la!

Editor’s note: Check out our new iPhone apps. The chocolate and pastry trip, which is included in the gourmet package, might be a very romantic thing to do—after all, chocolate is an aphrodisiac.
