Thailand’s largest island, Phuket, is a top beach destination, known for its clear waters, vibrant nightlife, and luxury resorts. Known as the "Land of Smiles," beautiful Thailand in Southeast Asia offers stunning landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. A vibrant nightlife and fragrant cuisine draw visitors to the bustling cities while, further afield, serene temples and striking landscapes beckon. Shop at Thailand’s floating markets where vendors sell tropical fruits and handmade crafts from boats. Experience local flavors and the country’s lively trade culture in these unique shopping sites. Let’s not forget Thailand’s fragrant street food. The bold flavors and fresh ingredients are legendary. Bangkok’s bustling street food scene is possibly one of the best, offering everything from satay skewers to mango sticky rice. These foods provide the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy.
Apart from the more than 40,000 Buddhist temples spread around the country, history enthusiasts will find the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ayutthaya Historical Park enthralling. Here, the ruins of the ancient Siamese capital are laid bare for all to see. Thailand has a tropical climate, so pack lightweight, breathable fabrics, like cotton or linen. Sarongs are useful for visiting temples, though you can hire one at the temple. When visiting temples, you need to dress modestly. Pack clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, such as long skirts, lightweight pants, or dresses with sleeves. Pack a bathing suit for beach days, pool lounging, and water activities like snorkeling or surfing. Include a sunhat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. A light jacket will serve you well on cooler evenings.
Sandals and good walking shoes are a necessity. Pack breathable walking shoes or sandals for exploring cities and temples. Flip-flops or slip-on shoes are also useful for beach days and visiting temples (where you’ll need to remove your shoes frequently). Pack a smart outfit for fine dining and shows and a leotard for yoga classes.
