Paris Fashion: It’s Raining Men

It seemed as though the men had taken over the street-style spotlight during the most recent Paris Fashion Week. While standing outside a few shows, I noticed the familiar style of the French man: well-tailored pants, nice shoes and a great coat. But what stood out the most was the way each of these men made this traditional style his own. I saw a new wave of men’s Paris fashion that was so on-trend but still remained unique to each individual.

While waiting to enter the Rick Owens Autumn/Winter ’14 show (who, I might add, is one of the best menswear designers working right now), I decided to scan the crowd to see what the attendees themselves were wearing. And they did not disappoint. Most of them were wearing designs by Mr. Owens himself, while a few others wore clothing from other notorious designers such as Tom Ford or Balenciaga.

What I admire the most is how the current menswear trend is so heavily inspired by men’s fashion in London in the ’80s but still shows something new and forward. Now we have 2014’s version of a men’s pant, which is the “drop crotch” or the layer upon layer of black. Men’s Paris fashion is now all about a neopunk baggy style that still remains true to the clean-cut menswear that we all know and love. Here are some great trends to look out for in the upcoming autumn/winter season:
• Wide-brimmed hats
• Printed shirts
• Leather boots
• Tailored jackets
• Round Sunglasses
• Black jogging pants
