Seen on the Streets of Paris: Ladylike Blouses and Luxe Leather
Fri 30 Nov 2012
Two Paris street fashion trends I liked this week: simple blouses and leather jackets.
My first sighting was a gorgeous top (on a gorgeous woman) outside Shakespeare & Company. The blouse had an open neck and wonderfully asymmetric lapels. This lady’s haircut and black cigarette pants let the neckline shine on this piece.
Next, a berry-beautiful polka-dot silk shirt, which I spotted on a coffee break with my friend. The wearer, Esmeralda, teamed her top with similarly rosy jeans. Delicious.
Leather jackets were also everywhere. They’re the perfect cover-up for light shopping as you duck from the cold winter air into warm shops—not too hot, not too cold. Black was the slick color of choice, turning up in patent and often paired with ladylike accessories such as soft nude blouses.
Good things come in twos. I was delighted to find two friends showcasing both trends, one in a blouse with a collar made from vintage fabric, the other pairing her leather jacket with a delicate pink skirt. But my favorite had to be the getup worn by a carefree lady breezing through the Champs-Élysées in a tan leather jacket covered with tassels that swung as she walked. What beautiful excess shown by this urban cowgirl.
