Seen on the Streets of Paris: Jumpers Are Back!

Jumpers, once the territory of the 1980s and English royals, have been injected with style this season and are everywhere in Paris street fashion. Double-dip trend from the ’80s: a good idea? I think so!

From slouchy silhouettes and vintage numbers to geometric patterns and cut-away sleeves, the jumper has gone from naff to cool in the fickle fashion world. And Parisians out for a stroll were more than happy to pull on a pullover to keep warm.

I saw Pop art splashed over knits and even a reindeer flashing in wool along the boulevard. Dubbed the “Christmas jumper” (complete with an ironic choice of print), this playful statement has been picked up by High Street, though I saw a lot more of it in Paris.

Jumpers in blocky primary colors also turned up on the streets and at the Palais de Tokyo—I always find great style there—paired with jeans for a casual effect or dressed up in metallic weaves for nighttime. Quirky ribbed knits and heritage cable knits, slinky black weaves and polo necks were all there.

My favorite was worn by a girl leaving American Apparel: she was sporting a multitoned knit, bell shaped with raglan sleeves. Effortlessly gorgeous? That is Parisian.
