Huaypo, Maras & Moray

Day 3: Thursday, May 22nd, 2025

After breakfast, our adventure begins with a visit to the gorgeous Huaypo Lake, a pristine lagoon perched high in the Andes. Here, we'll take to the water in sea kayaks, gliding across the calm surface and enjoying the stunning Andean scenery.

For lunch, we'll share a tranquil Pachamanca. This traditional Peruvian dish, dating back to the Inca Empire, features pork, chicken, and meats marinated with aromatic herbs and spices, accompanied by potatoes, beans, cassava, plantain, corn, peppers, pineapples, and cheese. All these ingredients are baked underground with hot stones, creating a rich, smoky flavor that offers a true taste of Peru's culinary heritage.

Afterward, we'll visit the famous salt mines of Maras, where shimmering, terraced pools in vibrant colors—from pristine white to rich earthy tones—create a mesmerizing mosaic landscape.

Our next treasure is Moray, where you’ll explore the unique circular agricultural terraces shaped like an amphitheater. These ancient ruins reveal the Inca's ingenious farming techniques and provide breathtaking panoramic views of the Sacred Valley.

Reviews

"Machu Picchu has been a bucket list destination for quite some time. I cannot imagine a better organized, unique or memorable adventure through Peru and the Andes than this experience with Girls’ Guide to the World. The trip checked off Machu Picchu but so much more; delving into local culture and customs I otherwise would not have sought out or experienced. The accomodations and food were varied and top notch. Traveling with a small group of like minded women was a joy." - Rhoda R., Kokomo IN
