Arriving in Trieste, Italy feels like stepping into a living postcard, where the Adriatic’s gentle waves meet streets steeped in history and the unmistakable aroma of Italian coffee. The city draws you in slowly, inviting you to wander its elegant piazzas, where each corner whispers tales of empires past. Miramare Castle stands proudly by the shore, a guardian of Trieste’s rich heritage, offering vistas that capture the soul of this coastal gem. From here, the adventure flows into Slovenia’s lush landscapes. Goriška Hills awaits, its vineyards glowing under the gentle sun, where each glass of wine tastes like a celebration of life itself. In Ljubljana, Slovenia’s heartbeat, a river cruise offers a fresh perspective of this vibrant city, where history dances along the banks and each bridge seems to have a tale to tell. Then comes Lake Bled, where the Alpine air is crisp, and the water sparkles like a secret shared only with those who venture here. We’ll glide over the glassy lake, take in the view from Bled Castle, and join a local family in their kitchen, rolling out dough and laughter as we create a feast from scratch. As we reach Triglav National Park, nature takes center stage. The mountains rise around us, and a quiet stillness fills the air. We’ll hike the trails, savor local delicacies in a mountain lodge, and breathe deeply, feeling a world away. And as our journey reaches Zagreb, Croatia’s lively capital, we’re welcomed into its vibrant streets where past and present intertwine effortlessly. From the buzz of local markets to a farewell dinner that celebrates the flavors of our travels, every moment feels like a chapter in a story that will linger long after the journey ends.

The trip officially starts on September 10th. If you don't want to rush or prefer to enjoy Trieste for an extra day, I suggest flying in a day early. If you do decide to arrive, book an extra night on our website, and we will take care of the booking arrangements for you.
Fly into Trieste Airport (TRS) in Italy for the starting point in Trieste. Travelers from the U.S. can reach Trieste by booking flights with one or more layovers through major European hubs.
For the return, you should fly out of Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG) in Croatia, as the trip concludes in Zagreb.
In September, the average daily temperature in Slovenia ranges from 54°F to 72°F (12°C to 22°C). The coastal areas enjoy slightly warmer weather, around 68°F (20°C). In contrast, the mountainous regions may experience cooler temperatures, especially at higher altitudes.
We will have a zoom call about 6 weeks before the trip starts to discuss all that information and give you a packing list. Here is a great website we love that will help you with packing and travel trips.
Starting in 2025, travelers to the UK and most of Europe will need to apply for travel authorizations. On January 8th, 2025, the UK requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), valid for 2 years. If you get a new passport, you will need to get a new ETA.
Beginning in May 2025 travel to countries in the Schengen Zone—most of Europe except for Ireland— requires a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) application. This is valid for up to 3 years or until your passport expires whichever comes first.
Both applications are completed online. The process is quick and involves a small fee. Girls’ Guide to the World offers concierge assistance to help with these processes for all our trips.
