There’s something magical about stepping into Budapest. Perhaps it’s the way the Danube quietly frames the city, or the sense of history woven through its narrow streets. But as you settle into your riverside haven, the city begins to reveal itself. You might find yourself lingering in the warmth of a centuries-old bathhouse or strolling through the Buda Castle district, where panoramic views and timeless architecture offer a quiet pause before the adventure continues. As our journey unfolds, the tranquil beauty of the Danube Bend reveals itself. Hungary’s ancient fortresses stand guard over the river; the vibrant creativity of Szentendre’s artful streets welcomes us. We delve deeper into Hungary’s heartland, savoring the richness of Eger’s vineyards, where tradition pours into every glass of wine. In Tard, the peaceful rhythms of village life surround us as the timeless art of Matyó embroidery comes to life in our hands. The shimmering waters of Lake Balaton offer a serene interlude, while the Tihany Peninsula enchants with its Abbey and picturesque views. By the time we reach the Baroque charm of Sopron, it feels as if time itself has slowed, offering space to reflect on a journey filled with quiet wonders and moments of discovery. These aren’t just memories—they’re fragments of a story you’ve lived, each chapter adding depth to your Hungarian adventure.

Yes, Hungary is part of the Schengen Area and one of the 27 EU member states. That means you’ll need to complete the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) application before traveling to the country. You can find more information about it in our FAQs.
Starting in 2025, travelers to the UK and most of Europe will need to apply for travel authorizations. On January 8th, 2025, the UK requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), valid for 2 years. If you get a new passport, you will need to get a new ETA.
Beginning in May 2025 travel to countries in the Schengen Zone—most of Europe except for Ireland— requires a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) application. This is valid for up to 3 years or until your passport expires whichever comes first.
Both applications are completed online. The process is quick and involves a small fee. Girls’ Guide to the World offers concierge assistance to help with these processes for all our trips.
